Hello Plum Lake Neighbors and Friends,
It was great to see so many of you at the Plum Lake Association annual meeting!
As of today, PLA has 121 members, including 13 new members. We are launching a new outreach effort to build our membership and thus our work to protect, preserve and enhance the environmental, recreational and community assets of the lake we all love.
To that end, we suggest that our multi-generation Plum Lake families encourage their adult children to become members of PLA as well. Annual dues, which provide virtually all operating income, have been kept at $35, a small investment in the future of Plum Lake and in PLA programs and activities.
Membership forms are posted on the PLA website www.plumlakeassociation.org. Dues may be paid via PayPal on the website or mailed to PLA, P.O. Box 193, Sayner, WI 54560. Thank you!
Younger PLA families also may want to check out the Plum Lake Next Generation Facebook group, a place to find family-friendly information and connections. Just answer the question about your connection to Plum Lake, and one of the administrators will admit you.
For those who couldn’t join us at the meeting, here are a few highlights:
· An excellent presentation by Dr. Greg Sass, DNR Supervisor of Fisheries Research on the benefits of underwater woody habitat such as tree drops for increasing fish populations and water quality. Video and slides of his presentation may be found at www.plumlakeassociation.org
· Reports on PLA activities, including:
1. Grant-supported purchase of Plum Lake Preserve, protecting endangered lakefront bog and forest property on the East Bay, and potential transfer to the Northwoods Land Trust;
2. The June AIS shoreline sweep found no Curly Leaf Pondweed in Plum Lake; our 4 pair of nesting loons produced 2 chicks, a difficult year.
3. Planting over 3,000 native plants on the Plum Lake Golf Club shoreline to filter runoff and provide wildlife habitat, partnering with the DNR, Vilas County and PLGC.
· PLA Board elections: Tracy Bachmann of Camp Highlands and Milwaukee businessman Tom Popalisky, both longtime Plum Lakers, were elected to the PLA board for three-year terms. Sue Lloyd and Gail Shea were re-elected. Patty Hepburn will succeed Sue as PLA treasurer.
Committee reports on PLA activities and accomplishments presented at the annual meeting may be found on the PLA website, along with a gallery of Plum photos – feel free to share yours! – and much more. www.plumlakeassociation.org
Once again, thank you for supporting the PLA and our lake community. See you on the lake!
Best regards,
The Board of Directors of the Plum Lake Association
